Shifa Program - List of Courses Primary Program Arabic - Basic Level Basic Arabic Reading (ARB101) This gateway to the Introductory Arabic courses will teach you how to read the Arabic script and articulate the Quran. By the end of the course, you will be able to open and read any vowelled Arabic text, as well apply basic tajwid rules to both the Quran and standard Arabic texts. Introductory Tajweed (TJW102) Learn and apply the rules of tajweed to the Fatiha and 30th part of the Qur'an in order to acquire proficiency in your reading and beautify your recitation. Practice your reading of the Qur'an live with the instructor and receive personalized feedback. Together, ARB111 and ARB112 prepare you for ARB201, ARB202, and ARB203, which are the central courses of the Miftah program. You will learn enough Arabic rules to enable you to use a dictionary and get started with sentence breakdown.
Arabic - Level 1 Introductory Arabic, Part 1 (ARB111) focuses on understanding simple sentence structures, word definiteness, describing words, duals, plurals, broken plurals, word gender, word constructions, verb conjugations, pronouns, word states, noun sentences, verb sentences, verb tenses, and more. Introductory Arabic, Part 2 (ARB112) builds on the previous course and delves further into grammatical states; verb forms, word roots, sentence breakdowns, unnunated nouns, command verb, doerless verb, 10 morphology forms, negating verbs, how to use an Arabic dictionary, and more. Together, ARB111 and ARB112 prepare you for ARB201, ARB202, and ARB203, which are the central courses of the Miftah program. You will learn enough Arabic rules to enable you to use a dictionary and get started with sentence breakdown. Arabic - Level 2: Intermediate Arabic, Part 1 (ARB201, also HDT201) will allow you to go beyond the basics and apply introductory Arabic theory to read, understand, and grammatically analyze 100 noun-sentence hadiths. You will begin applying the Arabic skills you have developed in your introductory coursework to actual hadiths strengthening your understanding of concepts such as time and place containers, conditional sentences, indefinite subjects, inna, hal, innama, and more. Intermediate Arabic, Part 2 (ARB202, also HDT202) applies the Arabic skills you have developed in your introductory coursework to actual verb-sentence hadiths from Imam Nawawi's Riyadh as-Saliheen. You will learn, apply, and strengthen you understanding of many concepts such as doerless verb, command tense with weak letters, iyyaka, nun of emphasis, laysa, and more. Arabic - Level 3: Al-Ajurrumiyya Explained (ARB301) exposits a famous classical primer on Arabic grammar that has been used in the Muslim world for hundreds of years. It gives you a comprehensive map of the theory of Arabic grammar that you will refer to for the rest of your life and use as a basis for further study in grammar. Al-`Izzi Explained (ARB302) exposits a famous classical primer on Arabic morphology that has been used in the Muslim world for hundreds of years. It gives you a comprehensive map of roots, verbs, and nouns that you will refer to for the rest of your life and give you a more complete understanding of classical texts. Shariah - Level 1 (Hanafi, Shafi'i or Maliki): Introduction to Islamic Worship - Part 1 (Hanafi), (Shafi'i) or (Maliki) (LAH111 / LAS111 / LAM111) - Attain a solid grounding in the rulings of purification and prayer by studying an intermediate-level text on the fundamentals of worship. The Hanafi course will be based on Imam Shurunbulali's Ascent to Felicity and the Shafi'i course will be based on Imam Nawawi's al-Maqasid. You will leave with a real understanding of what it means for Islam to be a "way of life" and how we are responsible for fulfilling the command of Allah Most High with every single action that we do. By gaining a comprehensive understanding of Islamic Law, you will be able to attain godfearingness (taqwa) in your lives because you will know how Allah's command relates to everything you they do. In addition, you will become familiarized with more and more fiqh terminology in Arabic. Each course is a double course-load (meaning it involves double the number of instructional hours than a regular full-course). Choose to learn in either English or Arabic.

Tajweed (Hafs): Ijaza Level Tajweed (Hafs) - Part 1 (TJW201-203) - A 3-part series of courses teaching you not only learn why and how to read the Quran without faults, but also giving you an ijaza that will enable you to pass your knowledge of this beautiful science to others.
Secondary Courses Belief & Spirituality Package: Introduction to Islamic Belief (BLF101) - Learn the fundamentals of what a Muslim believes about Allah, His messengers, and the Day of Judgment. Deepen and strengthen your understanding of the core Islamic beliefs through studying the most celebrated and well-known classical manual on Islamic beliefs, the manual of Imam Tahawi. The Book of Assistance (SPR101) - Learn the most basic, yet deeply profound, principles of Islamic spirituality, as explained by Imam al-Haddad in his Book of Assistance, which is widely considered the greatest summary of Islamic spirituality ever written.
Seera Package: The Dawn of Prophethood (HST101) - The first of a pair of courses focused on providing a detailed, historical look at the Prophet's life. Ramadan & You (GNL032) - This course will prepare you for the coming month of Ramadan through covering the inward dimensions of fasting. You will how to make most of this blessed month.
Tajweed of Fatiha (QRN010) - A free short course designed to help perfect your recitation of the Fatiha. Islamic Art Courses (Tentative): Each one of these hands-on programs are set to cover the period of 6 weeks, 2 days a week, 4 hours daily. During this period you will acquire the knowledge of all the introductory principles of that particular art. Arabic Calligraphy - This introductory program will prepare you to gain the understanding, expertise, and required qualifications related to the arts of Calligraphy, the unique, authentic, and exquisite Islamic Art. The first half of the course you will learn about the tools used as well as how to write all the Arabic letters in the Ruq'a style. In the second half you will practice writing short phrases which will prepare you for your final project: your best work of a short phrase in Ruq'a style. Geometry - Gain a foundational understanding of the traditional art of geometry, within the environment of Islamic contemplate and cultivation. In the first 4 weeks you will learn how to develop circle, square, triangle, hexagon, and octagon geometric shapes and patterns. The last 2 weeks will be used for your final project that you will present on the final day of class. Illumination - Hardly any Islamic artwork can be complete without some magnificent illumination. You will then spend the last 2 weeks on a final project.
